We are really excited to be entering this growing season with a 2nd unheated hoophouses to experiment in. Our first hoophouse is always filled with spinach for the winter/early spring which is the most reliable and profitable things to grow in winter in our area. This past fall we were able to put the 2nd hoophouse up over our late fall kale and leek, and keep the kale going all winter long (we didn't even bother row covering it). We were able to sell kale every week this winter which is a really exciting addition to our winter offerings. This week we completed our greenhouse transformation to summer crops. Our patchwork set of tomatoes of different sizes, sweet peppers, eggplant, cucumber, and pole beans replaced the salad greens that have been producing all winter (celery and Swiss chard remain). These new main crop plantings are all surrounded by interplantings of salanova, carrots, pac choi, beets, hakurei turnip, arugula, and radishes to make use of the "extra" space at the edges of the beds while the main crops are young (and to make sure the extra heating fuel bills are covered). Happy International Women's Day! Experience a full season working on a human-scale agro-ecological vegetable farm, and be rewarded with competitive pay and free veggies.. Newsletter #14 (February 2023) Loads of fresh salad mix and much more available in our online store today. Pre-order for pickup on farm, @cafepyrusoutpost in Waterloo, or @kintore_custom_hardwoods on Saturday. Delivery also available in Ingersoll, Woodstock and KW area
