Onion planting day success!! Some great looking seedlings went in on this beautiful day. 4200 by hand, and another 8000 with the paperpot transplanter.

Happy birthday to Jesse, the one keeping it running here at Milky Way Farm. Today he got to do one of his favourite jobs, planting cover crops. This time it was oats, peas and hairy vetch, planted to cover the soil, feed the microbes, and fix nitrogen in beds we won't need to plant until mid summer.

We are really excited to be entering this growing season with a 2nd unheated hoophouses to experiment in. Our first hoophouse is always filled with spinach for the winter/early spring which is the most reliable and profitable things to grow in winter in our area. This past fall we were able to put the 2nd hoophouse up over our late fall kale and leek, and keep the kale going all winter long (we didn't even bother row covering it). We were able to sell kale every week this winter which is a really exciting addition to our winter offerings.
